How does the hiring process work?

The process begins with an application that must be completely filled out and either submitted online or mailed to High Point Camp. References must then be obtained from three individuals that can respond to questions about your character as well as your spiritual life. Throughout the process, we will be praying that God will build our summer team by giving us wisdom and discernment as we offer contracts for our summer staff positions.

As a Counselor, what can I expect?

Most cabins will accommodate 9-11 campers. We try to keep our counselor-to-camper ratio 1 to 10 or fewer. Counselors are involved with every aspect of the camper’s life, including personal devotions, chapel times, program activities, and meal times. You can expect to be challenged yourself by the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. In addition, you will have the opportunity to serve the Lord alongside 50+ other believers dedicated to having the Lord use them in a summer ministry.

As Operations Staff, what can I expect?

The Op-staff is a very important part of our camp program. The staff’s main job is to help to prepare, serve, and clean up meals. However, it also involves serving in the snack shop, helping with program activities, and assisting the counselors with their cabin. Although a lot of the work may be behind the scenes during the day, the op-staff has the opportunity during the evening hours to be out and around the campers and to assist in counseling opportunities in the evening services. Each operations staff worker is assigned a cabin to help with each week, and may have the opportunity to be involved with cabin devotions in the evenings, as well as opportunities to counsel throughout the week.

What will weekends be like?

All staff will have off from clean-up time on Saturday (approximately 12:00 p.m.) until 10:00 a.m. on the following Monday morning. The weekends are a time to rest, to renew your focus for the next week, and to enjoy time with the other staff. There will be two planned weekends during the summer that all staff will be expected to be a part of. We will give you those dates at a later time.

Can I go away on the weekends?

With permission ahead of time, we do allow individuals to visit with friends on the weekend. If visiting a boyfriend or girlfriend, permission from parents is necessary.

Where will I go to church?

All staff will be expected to attend church at High Point Baptist Chapel. You will be permitted to take two Sundays away, but you are still expected to attend a local church on those Sundays. For those individuals that have a local church within driving distance, you are permitted to go to your home church throughout the summer, although there may be some weekends that we will ask you to stay at camp.

If I have a wedding to attend during the summer, is that possible?

We understand that you are at the age when many of your friends may be getting married. If you are in a wedding, we will do our best to accommodate you; however, we need to be contacted either in writing or by email, before camp begins, to make sure the schedule is changed and ready for your absence.

Am I required to attend Pre-camp training?

YES! It is a time to prepare your heart and mind with the knowledge, attitude, and conviction necessary to accomplish all that God has called you to do here at High Point Camp. It is also a great time of getting to know and bonding with those that you will be serving with throughout the summer.

What does pre-camp training consist of?

We have a two week-long training program which includes instruction in philosophy of camping, counseling techniques, camper discipline, general procedures, daily schedule, etc. The sessions are designed to instruct each counselor in the proper methods of counseling and how to deal with each camper’s spiritual needs. We will also use these two weeks to complete any projects that are necessary to get ready for the camp season.

How will camp benefit me?

This summer will be one of the most challenging summers you have ever experienced. You will grow spiritually by sharing your faith with saved, as well as unsaved, campers. You will be exposed to some of the best preachers from around the country. Many counselors have mentioned that one of the most valuable experiences they have had was working at a Christian camp.
