It’s not About Me –
Dying to Self and Living for the Savior
Why does the baby love to stare into the mirror -- is it that happy and
utterly congenial friend ready to look back at her in simple friendship?
What is the young girl thinking as she plays dress up in front of the
mirror -- does she dream of more exciting days ahead? What is that young
mom thinking as she glances in the mirror -- does the weariness etched on
her face remind her of all she has to do and how her strength seems way
too small? What is the aged woman thinking as she stands before the
mirror -- does she think of how life is far too fast and way too short?
Every person gazing into a
mirror is looking for something: confirmation, satisfaction, affirmation,
anticipation, happiness. No wonder we all look in the mirror; we are
selfish, self-centered, and self-promoting; we think “it’s all about us.”
But it isn’t! It shouldn’t come as a surprise that we are never
satisfied; we look in all the wrong places.
Mirrors magnify, and much
of magnification isn’t pretty; that’s why it can be tough to look into the
mirror of God’s Word. A not-so-attractive view stares right back at us,
but we need to open our eyes and our hearts and our minds to take a good
look. If we would simply gaze into the mirror of His Wisdom, we would
realize how satisfaction, joy, delight, and true friendship can easily be
found by simply remembering that it’s not about me... it’s about Him!
I’m made to reflect His glory. I’m to be a living mirror. Dying to self
and living for the Savior -- it’s that simple.
He
must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30
Join us for a specially planned conference given by women, for women,
about women. Our general sessions and workshops focus on relevant women's issues and spiritual growth.
Speaker:
Diane Olson
Diane Olson is the wife of Dr. Matt Olson, president of Northland Baptist
Bible College. After graduating from college, Diane stepped into full
time ministry with Matt and assisted him in planting Tri-City Baptist
Church in Westminster, Colorado where they served for 21 years before
being called to Northland.
Burdened for encouraging women, Diane enjoys
sharing with them one on one and at conferences and retreats. She is also
a faculty member at Northland and enjoys the opportunity of ministering to
college age young women who are seeking to serve the Lord in full time
ministry. Matt and Diane have three children and two grandchildren.
