A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR - TOM LAMBORN

Time and time again, I have been amazed at how God provides for High Point Camp. And time and time again, I have seen it proven that the way God provides is through His people. People give, people work, God gets the glory, and the ministry is sustained. I love seeing those situations where it is just so evident that God is using His people to meet our needs. Can I share some examples with you?

About 5 years ago, we found out that we needed to replace the zipline cable and it was going to cost about $2400. We needed to upgrade to a new and heavier cable to meet new standards of safety. That same week, a youth group from Philadelphia informed me that they had decided to raise some money for High Point Camp and they told me they were sending us a check for - you guessed it - $2400! Incredible!

Three years ago our commercial oven finally died. It was over 30 years old and was in bad shape. Within two days we found the exact oven we needed. It was brand new and was located less than 5 miles away from camp! That same day, someone contacted me and asked if we had any needs. I told them about the oven and they donated the money to pay for it. We went from an ancient, broken-down oven to a brand new, paid for, and installed oven in less than 48 hours.

We had a wind storm come through camp about 18 months ago and it did some damage to the chain-link fence around the outdoor basketball courts. We looked into getting someone here to fix it, but because of our spending freezes during the 2020 shutdown, we didn’t end up making the repair. This summer, one of our counselors showed up and we found out that he had worked for a fence company through high school. As God would have it, this young man knew exactly how to fix the fence, and he got it back into good shape.

These are just a few quick examples, and if time would allow, I could tell you many more. God doesn’t need our money or our work, but He does allow us to have a part in what He is doing. How cool is that? God chooses to use us in His plans. Over and over, I have seen God use His people to provide for the needs of High Point Camp. So many of you have given, particularly through 2020, to High Point Camp and I am so grateful. Thank you for partnering with us to equip campers to follow God and walk in love. In this newsletter, in addition to what’s going on this Fall and Winter, you will hear about our plans for Giving Tuesday and end-of-year giving opportunities. I would like to ask you to give to the work here at High Point Camp. I am excited about the future of High Point Camp and I look forward to seeing how God continues to provide.

DINING HALL UPDATE

As you know, we have been working on improving our Dining Hall for some time.  The challenges we faced in 2020 led us to shift our design and revamp the plans to something more affordable.  In addition, after looking for any way around the building codes, we have finally come to the conclusion that we must install a sprinkler system.  All the quotes we gathered were similar, and it looks like it will end up adding between $150,000 and $200,000 to the building costs.   Despite this hurdle, we are still moving forward.  Through His people, we have raised nearly $500,000 for this project.  Please continue to pray for the completion of this project.
